On Purpose

There is just one path.

One path that brings out the best in you.

One path where you thrive the most.

One path that you are meant for.

I was at a Vipassana retreat where the following vision appeared to me.

I had been asking myself about meaning. What is the meaning of life? What is the meaning of meditation, growth, enlightenment? What are we doing here?

As I closed my eyes, and drifted into a meditative state, the vision that came to me was first of birds flying through the clouds, then of fish swimming upstream in a river, then of a lion eating an antelope.

In nature, each animal has their own instincts, their own natural habitat where they thrive the most, their lives a part of a larger whole.

The lion does not try to be an antelope, and the antelope does not try to be a lion.

The fish does not jump from river to river, to different parts of the ocean, and then back again.

They have one place.

I’ve traveled and lived in many countries, I’ve had many types of jobs, and I’ve tried out different forms of expression and lifestyles.

What became clear to me is that I am part of a larger whole, there is one type of lifestyle that is ideal for me, there is one environment where I would thrive the most, there is one form of work where my skills and ambitions reach their fullest potential.

Seek that. Seek that one path that is meant for you. The one lifestyle, work, environment, that brings out the best in you. That brings out your joy, your spark, your happiness, your best work, your best contribution.

Seek the true purpose of your life.
